Salone del Mobile, Milan 2020
What is the world capital of design? There is Shanghai, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco and Cologne to host the most "in" design fairs in the world, but it comes first: the beautiful Milan, capable of captivating anyone with its Design week.
It is never easy to define what the Salone del Mobile in Milan is . Born in 1961 as a furniture fair, to promote exports as well, the Salone del Mobile has focused from the outset on the cultural aspects of the exhibition. Over the years, the Salone del Mobile has grown to become the world's leading lifestyle event, thanks also to Fuorisalone, the set of collateral events that take place in Milan during the Salone.
Key points of this edition are:
pursuit of beauty
power of creativity
strengthening of the connections.
Okay, we were not able to be there this time, actually none of us were! However, without further ado, we want to give you an heads up on the 10 trends we will find during the Salone del Mobile and to be expected for the home of 2021.
80’s club Style
It is a trend that is leaving a strong mark in the fashion and interior design fields, and it is represented by the fascinating shimmer of the 80s clubs. On one hand we have the contrast with metal finishes, on the other the typical shapes and volumes of those years, a bit pop and eccentric!
Blue Navy
We have already talked about this Pantone range as colour of the year. Designers who are making proportionate use of it are really many. There are those who have chosen to change the colour on the living room wall, those who opt for an unconventional sofa, or those who, more moderately, choose to insert details on neutral furnishings.
Mid-century
Stable in the first places, the trend of a style comparable to the middle-aged man does not go out of style; and here it is, in fact, the charming Fifty's style apartment, bright, elegant and attentive to detail. The nostalgic memory of spaces with attention to detail, adorned with wooden furniture, is affecting not only the web, but the modern houses of every city.
Eco-friendly furnishings and materials
Ecology is no longer an interest of a few. Fortunately, it is a topic felt by everyone, we are responsible for the environment, so why not start right from the house? The ecological impact of some raw materials affects the choice of furnishings and covering materials. We can find more and more companies that, through innovation, find sustainable solutions for the environment, while preserving aesthetics.
Ceiling decoration
In addition to embellishing the rooms, they introduce the viewer into a sort of decorative tunnel, which starts from a minimal style with simple relief lines and touches the most elegant and eclectic styles.
A few examples?
• coffered ceiling, smooth or detailed, are reproduced by imitating the old ones, in wood, but in neutral tones
• colours are used to create visual effects that reduce the heights of very high ceilings, avoiding plasterboard
• mirrors or reflective surfaces are chosen to illuminate the space and extend the vision beyond reality
• plaster frames convert common spaces into elegant ones, allowing you to combine more traditional furnishings with other modern ones
Traditional patterns in contemporary spaces
Let's go to the world of wallpapers, to papier paint, hand-painted paintings that become wallpapers, and refined paintings on the wall! It is better to limit the decoration on a single wall, so as not to overload the environment, and choose the space most suited to the imagination, depending on the furniture available.
Texture, tessuti, layers
Enriching a room does not always mean adding expensive pieces or colours, but working on the texture of the materials. How many times looking at your room do you have the perception that something is missing, that it is incomplete? Yet all the elements of the design are there - in a balanced combination of colours, furniture and decorative elements - but the room remains cold, flat.
Probably what is missing is Texture and how do you get a good result? Working on levels, starting from the largest objects, up to the smaller, apparently insignificant ones. It does not mean adding colour, but working with that already present in the room, and enriching every corner by working on individual pieces and materials. The contrast of textures allows you to attract the eye of those who look at that space, thanks also to the light which, depending on the material, is absorbed or reflected, creating games of unexpected shadows and light.
Clear environment for great pieces
Lovers of minimalism will widen their eyes and lighten a smile, reading this point. To embellish a clear environment, however, orderly and without too many furnishings, it will be a great piece. It can be an elegant armchair, an eclectic chair, a lamp or a picture, whatever it is the feature of a specific space!
Grey, endless love
In the past few years the "void" of white has been replaced by a more full-bodied, warm, always very clear base, which we perceive only by comparing it with the ceiling. A lot of companies have produced their own greys and even in those countries, where modern and contemporary spaces were associated with a total white, a desaturated shade has been introduced. It does not lead to extinguishing the environment, but instead it makes the walls of the rooms alive, even when no other colour is added. Needless to say, the combination of a colour with grey always works well, especially when playing with yellows, plums, pinks or blues. This filling will connect your modern spaces to elegant furnishings or vice versa, without clashing with woods or patterns.
Mirror, mirror on the wall
You will not feel alone upon entering the bathroom: looking over your shoulder there will be the wall covering you have chosen with love for your room. With this solution it is possible to create games of colour and shapes, varying the materials of the front walls, or create an effect of continuity, where the mirror becomes an integral part of the imagination.
Combining these points will allow you to make your home totally customizable, and most of all trendy!
So there you go! Hopefully this has helped ease the sadness of not being there, which we all feel, but nevertheless as they say… THE SHOW MUST GO ON
